FSU Men’s Tennis Completes Day Two at Southern Collegiate Championships

The Florida State men’s tennis team continued competition at the Southern Collegiate Championships being held in Athens, Ga. Competition will continue through Monday, Sept. 24. Seminoles Rodrigo Laub and Romain Jurd both advance to round three of championship action.

In Division II Singles junior Laub advanced to round three in the championships after defeating the No. 9 seed Max Fomine of Mississippi State in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Jurd is scheduled to face the No. 2 seed Simon Rea of Tennessee.

In Division III action sophomore Jurd would advance to the third round of action following his victory over Alex Sanabria of Central Florida 6-2, 6-2. Jurd will next face Zalan Kiss of Charleston Southern.

Seminole Senior Jeff Scarella defeated East Tennessee State’s Santiago Sahagun 6-2, 6-2 to advance him to second round action in Division IV Singles. In the second round Scarella fell to Trey Johnson of Florida in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. Newcomer Brad Kolowich fell to Johen Westin in second round action of the championships 6-2, 7-6 (3).

In Division I singles Seminoles Xavier Luscan vs. Nikola Araci of Murray State to advance to the third round of competition. In Division I Consolation, sophomore Alex Herrera vs. Sanjin Sadovich of LSU to advance to third round action. In Division II Consolation Seminole Gustav Bucht vs. No. 1 seed Wade Orr of Tennessee. Division IV Singles Consolation, Kolowich vs. Adam Branks of UNC-A to advance to the third round.

In Division II doubles Jurd and Scarella vs. Lavland and Semon of Virginia Tech to advance to the fourth round of competition. In Division III doubles action Kolowich and Laub vs. Goode and Varela of UNC-G to advance to third round action.

The Southern Collegiate Championships will continue thru Monday, Sept. 24.
