The Florida State men’s tennis team completed day two action at the prequalfying rounds of the ITA All-American Championships being held in Stone Mountain, Ga. Sophomores Alex Herrera and Romain Jurd both advance to round four action.
Herrera was the lone Seminole to complete action with a win against UTC’s Tom Knizat in day one before the rain delay set in. Later that evening Jurd would advance to round two following his match against Bowling Green’s Ian Bliss, 7-5, 6-3. Seminole junior Rodrigo Laub would also see a win in round one after defeating Mississippi State’s Matt Armstrong in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
In round two action Herrera would again see a win against UNC-G’s Tamer Haddon. Jurd would advance as well after facing Illinois State’s Ciaran Foley. Putting up a tough fight Laub would fall in round two to Baylor’s Marcus Hornung.
Finishing action on the second day of the prequalifier, both Herrera and Jurd would again advance. Herrera defeated Louisville’s Cody Conley and Jurd would defeat San Diego’s Juan Cerda.
Fourth round singles will be played on Sunday, Oct. 7th. First and second round doubles competition will take place later tonight. Players must win two or more rounds to advance to the qualifying rounds Oct. 9-10.
