FSU Men’s Tennis Falls To Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The 45th-ranked Florida State Seminoles dropped their
second match of the season Sunday, March 12th to the Clemson Tigers by a
score of 5-2. Florida State’s record drops to 9-3 on the season and 1-1 in
the conference.

Only two out of the six singles matches went in two sets. At No. 1
singles, Xavier Luscan defeated 44nd-ranked Josh Goffi by a score of 3-6,
6-4, 7-5. This win raised Luscan’s winning streak to nine while boosting
his season record to 10-2. At No. 2 doubles, Mike Ingham dropped his match
in three tight sets to 41st-ranked Tomasz Moniecki by a score of 6-7, 3-6,
7-6. In another three-set match, sophomore Noah Schnell, at No. 3 singles,
was defeated by Clemson’s Luis Garcia by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. At No.
4 singles, Micah Thompson defeated Mooney in another three-set match by a
score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Pulling out the Seminoles second win of the match was freshman
Rodrigo Laub. At No. 5 singles, Laub defeated 82nd-ranked Marko Gojanovich
by a two-set score of 6-1, 6-3. This win, boosted Laub’s winning streak to
10 and raised his season record 15-3. Concluding the singles portion of
the match, sophomore Jeff Scarella dropped his match, in two sets, to
Darren Knight by a score of 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 6 position.

In the doubles portion of the match, the Clemson Tigers clenched
all three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles,
the Tiger duo of Knight-Goffi defeated Schnell-Jay Travis by a score of
8-0, while Boniecki-Gojanovic defeated Luscan-Laub by a score of 8-5 at the
No. 2 doubles position. Concluding the doubles portion of the match,
Moony-Ingham fell short to the tandem of Sandon Barth-Eric Cohn by a score
of 8-6 at the No. 3 doubles spot.
