TALLAHASSEE, Fl. – The Florida State men’s tennis team is hosting the Seminole Spring Tournament this weekend at the Scott Speicher tennis Center. This afternoon the No. 59 Seminoles fell to Tennessee Tech 4-3, moving them to 3-1 against the Golden Eagles in the all-time series record.
The Noles took two of three doubles matches over Tech, giving them the doubles point for the afternoon. The tandem of Gustav Bucht and Alex Herrera teamed together to take an 8-3 win over Gernot Fischer and Marco Schmidt at the No. 1 position. At No. 3 doubles, Jeff Scarella and Bartos Koldej defeated Razvan Ilie and Jorge Ascencio 8-4. However, the doubles point was just not enough for the Noles as they fell to the Golden Eagles by one match in singles competition.
Romain Jurd, who played at the No. 1 position for the Seminoles, defeated Piotr Wawrzyniak in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Junior Jeff Scarella collected a 6-2, 6-2 win for the Noles against Tennessee Tech’s Razvan Ilie at the No. 5 position. In the deciding singles match, Rodrigo Laub fought till the end against Simon Tremblay-Larouche to avoid the upset, but fell in the third set (4-6, 7-5, 6-3).
