TALLAHASSEE, FL.–The Florida State men’s tennis team is taking on the 20th-ranked Auburn Tigers on Sunday April 28th at 1:00 p.m. at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in a match that could decide whether or not the Seminoles will hear their names called when the selection for the NCAA tournament takes place on May 3rd. A total of 64 teams will make up the draw of the tournament which begins on May 12th.
Florida State, led by All-ACC Team member Xavier Luscan, is No. 62 in the most recent ITA ranking and currently stands at 10-13 on the season, while Auburn arrives in Tallahassee with a 12-9 record for the year. After dropping a heart breaker to Wake Forest and finishing 5th in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on April 20th, the Seminoles have had some time to prepare for the top-ranked Tigers.
“Auburn has had a very good year and we will have to go out there and compete really hard to give ourselves a chance to win”, said FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist. “This is a great opportunity for us to make the tournament and I think our team is ready for the challenge.”
Though Florida State and Auburn have not played each other in a dual match since 1990, Sunday’s battle will mark the 23rd meeting between the two schools and the Seminoles lead the all-time series over the Tigers 13-9.
