TAMPA, Fla. — The Florida State men’s tennis team traveled to
Tampa, Fla. to face the South Florida Bulls in their eighth road match of
the season. The 69th-ranked Bulls defeated the 47th-ranked Seminoles 6-1
to hand the Noles their sixth road loss of the year. FSU’s record falls to
11-9 overall while USF improves to 10-13 on the year.
The lone point for FSU came from junior Chad Mooney at No. 6
singles. Mooney won his first match of the season at No. 6 by a score of
6-3, 7-5. Florida State did manage to win one of the three doubles
matches, winning at the No. 3 position by a score of 8-1. The FSU duo of
Mike Ingham and Jeff Scarella defeated Abhijit Shah and Ernest Diaz at No.
3 to win their seventh dual match of the season.
At No. 1 singles, FSU’s Xavier Luscan, the country’s 44th-ranked
player, lost to the nation’s 62nd-ranked player, Fabio Tintori, by a score
of 6-4, 7-6. Two of the six singles matches went three sets including No.
5 singles where FSU’s Rodrigo Laub lost for only the fifth time this dual
match season. Laub lost to USF’s Abhijit Shah 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
Florida State has two matches remaining in their regular season.
Both matches will be next weekend on the road against Furman on Saturday,
April 15th and Georgia Tech on Sunday, April 16th.
