TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Florida State men’s tennis team will split
up to compete in two different tournaments this weekend before kicking off
their first dual match season under new head coach Dwayne Hultquist. Half
of the 2000 Seminole squad will go to the ACC Men’s Indoor Championships to
be held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The other half of the team will
travel to Texas for the Rice University Indoor Championships.
The Seminoles enter the 2000 spring season with a host of new
faces. Competing for the first time for the Seminoles will be freshmen Joe
Bassett, Deni Franulovic, Rodrigo Laub and Timo Volmer. Junior Jay Travis
returns to the Noles after a year away from the team and sophomores Noah
Schnell and Jeff Scarella look to utilize the experience they gained last
season. Junior Chad Mooney and senior Mike Ingham will provide experience
and depth to a team that lost four seniors from last year’s 13-10 team.
The Seminoles will host their first spring dual matches of the
season the weekend of February 4th-5th. On Friday, February 4th, Hultquist
and the Noles will host Georgia Southern at 3:30 p.m. and on Saturday,
February 5th, Central Florida comes to town for a 2:00 p.m. match.
