FSU Men’s Tennis Wraps Up Day One Action at the ITA Regional Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Florida State men’s tennis team only had one singles match on Thursday, October 19 at the ITA Mideast Regional Championships as sophomore Chris Cloer (Brevard, N.C.) defeated Richard Wardell from William & Mary 6-0, 6-1.

With the win Cloer advanced into the round of 64 where he will be joined by five other Seminoles who received first round byes. Cloer’s next opponent will be Joey Atas from Duke, while freshman Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) will take on George Guelesiani from Georgia Tech, senior Jonatha Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) will face Ryan Young from Clemson, senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) will match up against Radek Pivonka from South Carolina State, sophomore Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) will hit the courts versus Andy Juc from Furman and junior Sam Chang (Young-Ming, Taiwan) will compete against Pedro Campos from South Carolina. All six Seminoles will compete in the round of 64 on Friday, October 20.

Two Seminole doubles’ teams advanced into the round of 32 before being defeated. Abougzir and Sykut won their opening round match over Cardoso and Patnikov from Longwood 8-4 before losing a close match in the second round to Dossetor and Eason from the Citadel 9-7. Sophomore Andrew Bailey (Tallahasse, Fla.) and freshman Michael O’Shea (Boca Raton) were victorious in their opening round match defeating Juc and Ladyman from Furman 8-6 and then dropped their next match to Atas and Goulet from Duke 8-4.

The ITA Mideast Regional Championships will continue through Sunday, October 22.
