A Win At Home
With a 23-19 victory on Saturday, Florida State became the first team in the series to successfully defend its home turf since 2005 when the Seminoles defeated the Hurricanes 10-7 in Tallahassee.
Fisher Eyes The Storm
With a victory over Miami on Saturday, head coach Jimbo Fisher became just the second coach in school history to defeat the Hurricanes in his first two meetings. Larry Jones was the first to accomplish the feat defeating Miami in his first two years as Seminole head coach in 1971 (20-17) and 1972 (37-14).
First Third Quarter Drive > First Half Yardage
On the first drive of the third quarter, Florida State drove 83 yards on 11 plays culminating in a 21-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins to take a 20-7 lead. The 83 yards were six more yards than the Seminole offense tallied in the first half. FSU ran just 19 offensive plays for 79 yards in the first half. The Seminoles finished with 180 yards in the second half and 259 yards for the game.
The Seminole defense held the Hurricanes to their lowest point total of the season at 19 points. After giving up 203 yards on 40 plays in the first half, the Seminole defense held the Canes to 180 second half yards on 30 plays. It also marked the fewest points allowed in the series since giving up 10 in a 13-10 FSU victory in Miami.
With field goals of 21 and 38 yards in the second half, Dustin Hopkins moved into fifth place all-time for career points surpassing Gary Cismesia (308 points). Hopkins currently sits with 310 career points. Sebastian Janikowski ranks fourth on the all-time list with 323 career points.
Powell Inside The 10
Shawn Powell’s fourth punt of the game was another good one as it pinned the Hurricanes inside the 10 yard line for the second time on Saturday. The senior punter has now recorded nine punts inside the 10 to lead all punters in the ACC. He finished with five punts for an average of 54.8 yards in today’s game.
Bradham Season-High Tackles
Nigel Bradham set a season high with 10 tackles on Saturday. The senior linebacker was credited with seven solo and three assisted tackles against the Hurricanes. Bradham’s previous season high in tackles was nine against Oklahoma.
Racking Up The Punt Return Yardage
Greg Reid tallied 106 return yards on three punts on Saturday. It marked a career high for Reid and the first time he recorded over 100 punt return yards in a game. For his career, Reid stands with 1,014 punt return yards – third most on the Florida State all-time list. He becomes just the fourth player in school history to achieve 1,000 career punt return yards (Deion Sanders – 1429; Willie Reid – 1,063; Terrell Buckley – 1,000).
More On Reid
With three career punt returns for touchdowns, Greg Reid tied a school record. He joins Joe Wessel (81-84), Deion Sanders (85-88), Terrell Buckley (89-91) and Willie Reid (02-05). He also is the first player to record over 100 punt return yards in a game since Willie Reid registered 108 yards on six punts against NC State in 2004.

Members of the Tampa Bay Rays, winners of the 2011 AL Wild Card, were on the sidelines for today’s game as guest of head coach Jimbo Fisher. The list of Rays included David Price, B.J. Upton, Matt Joyce, Desmond Jennings and Reid Brignac.
