The No. 17-ranked Florida State men’s tennis team (10-2 overall, 1-0 ACC), winners of four of its last five matches, will return to ACC action Saturday, March 15th at 3 p.m., with a dual match at in-state rival Miami (9-2, 2-0 ACC), at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
The Hurricanes have won five straight matches and are a perfect 6-0 at home this season. Last season, FSU defeated Miami 5-2 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. FSU and Miami have had four common opponents so far this season. Both teams defeated Florida Atlantic and the ACC’s Georgia Tech. The Hurricanes defeated in-state rival Florida (4-3) while FSU fell 5-2 to the Gators. FSU defeated Rice (4-3) while UM fell 5-2 to the Owls.
“Miami is one of our big rivals and also an ACC foe,” FSU head coach Dwayne Hultquist said. “A lot of our guys are from South Florida, at least half of our team. Miami is always a big match for them and it is something they take a lot of pride in. Miami has a great team, they are very strong. They have one of the best players in the country in Daniel Vallverdu (ranked No. 3) and that will be a great match for Jean-Yves (Aubone). They have already beaten Florida, who we lost to, so we know that they are an outstanding team.”
