Tallahassee – The Florida State men’s and women’s outdoor track and field squad will spend Friday and Saturday, March 12-13, 2004 competing at the FAMU Relays in Tallahassee, FL. The Seminoles are coming off their first meet of the outdoor season in which they hosted the Snowbird Invite on March 5-6, 2003. The teams combined for eleven wins over the two day meet.
At the meet last weekend, junior Kim Walker (Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago/Poly Technic) won the 100m dash and 400m dash in 11.74 and 57.96, respectively. In the 200m dash, sophomore LaKendra McColumn (Lithonia, GA/Southwest Dekalb) won in a time of 25 seconds. Freshman Angelina Ramos (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield), seeded ninth in heat two, competed in her first intercollegiate outdoor track meet, running in the 1500m run in a time of 5:20.93. The men’s and women’s 4x100m relays took event titles with a time of 40.40, 46.12, respectively. The women’s 1600m relay’s time of 3:50.56 was good for first while the men took second in 3:14.50.
On the men’s side, sophomore Shawn Allen (Crystal River, FL/Seven Rivers Christian) completed the day in second place in the men’s high jump with a mark of 6’4.75. Freshman Matt Hurley (Tallahassee, FL/Chiles) placed second in the pole vault with a height of 15’7″. Sophomore John Fallone (Rochester, N.Y./Virginia Tech) rounded out the top finishers for the day, posting a mark of 54’10.75″ in the shot put.
With indoor and outdoor seasons overlapping, the Seminoles are spread thin until next weekend’s home meet. The FSU Relays will be held in Tallahassee, FL from March 18-20, 2004.
