SETTING THE SCENE

Florida State, the only team to defeat No. 1 Duke this season (77-76, Jan. 6 in Tallahassee), travels to College Park, Md., to face No. 3 ranked Maryland. The Seminoles enter Saturday’s game having won six of their last eight games after defeating Clemson, 68-63, Thursday night in Tallahassee. Florida State began its current hot streak with a victory over Virginia Tech Dec. 27 and won a season-high four games between its win over the Hokies and its victory over Duke. The Seminoles defeated Clemson for the fourth consecutive time at home Thursday night. The victory over the Tigers evened Florida State’s ACC record at 3-3 – giving the Seminoles its first 3-0 start at home in conference games since the 1992-93 season. In addition, the victory over Clemson was the Seminoles 10th of the season and surpassed its victory total from the entire 2000-01 season.

CUMMINGS CONTINUES TO SHINE

All-ACC candidate Monte Cummings, who has scored in double figures in a career-high 11 consecutive games, enters Saturday’s game against Maryland with a career-high 15.3 points per game average. The senior is ranked 10th in the ACC in scoring and has scored at least 13 points in every Florida State game since Dec. 16 against Wake Forest. He has scored 20 or more points five times and scored his career-high of 28 in the Seminoles’ victory over Cleveland State Dec. 19. Cummings is averaging nearly five points more this season than his did during his first season in Tallahassee when he averaged 10. 7 points as the top sixth-man in the ACC.

IF IT’S AN APPROACHING MILESTONE – LOOK TO ARRINGTON

Senior point guard Delvon Arrington, an All-ACC candidate, enters Saturday’s game against Maryland looking to become only the 10th player in school history to make 100 or more 3-point shots during his career. Arrington, who has made 11 3-point shots in the last eight games, has made 98 3-point shots during his 106 game career. Already this season, Arrington has scored his 1000th career point (Jan. 16 vs. North Carolina), gained his 600th career assist (Jan. 6 vs. Duke) and earned his 200th career steal (Jan. 24 vs. Clemson).
