TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With the AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championship right around the corner, the No. 3-ranked Florida State sand volleyball team will get a final tune-up in on Saturday in an intersquad exhibition at the FSU Sand Volleyball Complex.
The matches will start at 12 p.m. ET and each FSU pair will compete in two matches as the Seminoles prepare for the second national championships event in Gulf Shores, Ala., from May 3-5. The second matches are scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m. ET.
Following the match, students are encouraged to compete in a king/queen of the beach tournament. The winning team will receive a $100 gift card to Tomahawk Sports Bar & Grill. Fans can sign up at the marketing table during the match.
“We’re doing an intersquad game,” head coach Danalee Corso said. “We’ve been tweaking things here and there, and we’ve had some injuries. It’s a good time for us to really compete hard this weekend and stay at home. We won’t be drained from traveling. With final exams coming up next week, it’s important for us to have good competition this weekend. We’re lucky that we are so deep that an intersquad game is very tough competition. There will be really competitive games this weekend and just some all-around great volleyball.”
FSU has a 15-2 dual match record and earned the No. 3 seed in the six-team national team title bracket.
FSU has been led by Stephanie and Nina Pellitteri, who have played every match together this season and lead the Seminoles with a 31-4 record. Last week, the sisters captured the Silver Bracket pairs championship at Florida State’s home event.
In addition, the senior Mallory Kiley (28-4 overall record) and sophomores Jace Pardon (24-10) and Sarah Wickstrom (24-5) have been some of the Seminoles top performers. Pardon and Wickstrom will likely play at FSU’s No. 1 spot in the national championship.
