FSU Soccer Hands Out Weekly Awards After North Carolina Win

Oct. 26, 2000

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
After recording their first-ever win over the University of North Carolina, the Seminole soccer team handed out their rookie of the week and player of the week honors. Freshman Kristin Boyce and Sarah Deacon both had a big week and were honored by head coach Patrick Baker.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

KRISTIN BOYCE: She has put together some very strong weeks. It started with the job she did against Wake Forest’s Taggart and Joline. She did a great job against them and also helped us possess well out of the back. She played a ton of minutes in a double OT game with NC State and continued to play well in the back. She did a phenomenal job against UNC’s Susan Bush and Danielle Borgman. She solidified our defense against the nation’s number one scoring offense and her ability to get forward and score the game-winner in such a big game was huge for our program.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SARAH DEACON: She had two very good games for us last week. She played about as well as anyone played for us throughout the North Carolina game. Her ability to make people miss really opened up some time and space for us against the Tar Heels at crucial times. She didn’t figure into the goals that night but when you look at the game tape she was as instrumental to our victory as anyone on the field. She was one of our few bright spots against Maryland and she played very well that night. The minute she stepped on the field she was able to provide an immediate spark for us out of the midfield. She created many of the opportunities we had that night. Nobody is more deserving of this award after those two matches than Sarah Deacon.
