COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Lady Seminole softball team fell to Louisiana-Lafayette 9-1 in the final day of competition at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. Florida State finished 1-4 in the classic.
Brandi Stuart started the scoring for the Lady Seminoles with a single RBI, bringing in Rita Brooks in the first inning. Louisiana-Lafayette answered in the first, scoring off a passed ball, tying the game at 1-1. The Lady Cajuns then broke the game open, scoring on three hits and three Lady Seminole errors to take a 7-1 lead after two innings. Louisiana-Lafayette added a run in the third for an 8-1 lead and added a homerun in the sixth to take the 9-1 win. Stuart went 2-2 with an RBI and Brooks was 2-3 with a triple. Leslie Malerich took the loss, striking out three batters and walking two with Jen White-Stokes going three and a third innings, striking out five and walking five.
Florida State is 15-8 on the season and head to California for spring break. The Lady Seminoles will take on University of Pacific at 2:00pm on Tuesday, March 7 before heading to Fresno for the Hallowell Fresno State Classic.
