When the Lady Seminoles win, they like to win big! The Tribe is 13-3 in
games decided by five or more runs. FSU hasn’t had much success with the
close games though. The Lady Seminoles are 8-10 in one-run games.

With its 7-0 win on Wednesday, FSU went 5-0 vs. the Rattlerettes this
season. In two of those games, the Tribe eight-run ruled FAMU in five
innings and three games were shutouts. FSU’s last loss to FAMU was on
April 14th, 1999.

FSU belted 12 hits in its 9-1 win over FAMU on April 9th. It marked the
eighth time this season that the Lady Seminoles have recorded double digit
hits in a game and the Tribe is 8-0 in those games. Florida State belted a
season-high 13 hits in the first game of the doubleheader vs. Ohio on March
22. On the flip side, FSU pitching has allowed an opponent to record
double-digit hits in just one game this season — a 4-2 loss to FIU, who
had 10 hits.

Freshman Brandi Stuart batted .333 last week and led the team with seven
RBIs. Stuart, who tied with Staci Brandon with six hits, recorded four
singles, a triple and a grand slam home run in six games this week. She
also had two steals.

Florida State pitching has produced 17 shutouts this season, including a
no-hitter against Florida A&M and a perfect game against Princeton. Leslie
Malerich leads the unit with 10 solo and two combined shutouts. The Lady
Seminoles have been shutout seven times this year.

Freshman Brandi Stuart blasted a grand slam home run in the bottom of the
seventh inning of game one vs. Florida to lift the Lady Seminoles to a 6-3
victory over the Gators. It was Stuart’s first career grand slam and her
second home run of hte year. The only freshman playing on the team this
season (Beth Wade is redshirting), Stuart is third on the team in batting
(.321) and second in hits (52), RBIs (28) and steals (23).

After committing 14 errors in four games, April 1st and 2nd, the Tribe had
four errors in the first game against UF. Finally, in the second game, the
Lady Seminoles went error-free, snapping a 10-game streak of games with at
least one error.

The Lady Seminoles committed a season-high seven errors in their 8-2 loss
to Georgia Tech on April 1st. In fact, the team struggled defensivley all
weekend with 14 errors in four games.

FIU ripped off 10 hits in the first game of the doubleheader with Florida
State on Sunday. It is the only time this season that an opponent has
recorded double-digit hits in a game.

Sunshine Network will broadcast the North Carolina series on April 16th.
The ACC Softball Tournament championship game on Monday, May 1st will also
be aired on Sunshine.

Malerich earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors for the fourth time this
season on March 27. Malerich went 4-0 for the week, including two
shutouts, with a 0.54 ERA and one save. With a 3-0 record and a save in
the UTC Frost Cutlery Challenge, she was named to the All-Tournament team
and earned MVP honors. Malerich held opponents to a .172 batting average,
allowing just two runs in 26 innings of work on the mound. She made five
appearances for the week, with four starts and three complete games. She
walked just six batters while striking out 21.

The Lady Seminoles were well represented on the UTC Frost Cutlery Challenge
All-Tournament Team. Joining Malerich, who also earned MVP honors, were
Becky Wallace, Brandi Stuart and Teresa Edenfield. Wallace batted .462
with two RBIs. Stuart batted .353 with three runs and three RBIs while
Edenfield batted .316 with four RBIs.

Florida State showed some real fight against Wisconsin in the final day of
the UTC Frost Cutlery Challenge. Down 5-0 after two innings, the Tribe
scored two runs in the fourth and then exploded for four runs on five hits
in the seventh inning. After giving up five runs in the second inning,
Jenn White-Stokes allowed just three Badger hits the next four innings and
Leslie Malerich came into the game in the seventh to earn the save.

Junior Serita Brooks used her speed to round the bases for her second home
run of the season vs. Ohio, but first in-the-park home run. It is the
second in-the-park home run for the Lady Seminoles this season as Jen
White-Stokes recorded one vs. FAMU on February 12th.

Serita Brooks leads the team with 20 multi-hit games this season. The
junior also has four multi-RBI games on the year. She also put together a
hitting streak of 10 games between Feb. 16-27th.

Juniors Staci Brandon and Serita Brooks were named to the 2000 Tallahassee
Democrat Florida State Invitational All-Tournament team over the weekend.

plate with two RBIs and three runs scored. Brooks hit .529 on 9-of-17,
including a double and a triple, and scored two runs and drove in three

sprained left knee. She saw one at bat in the five games and it was a hit
against Northern Iowa. Edenfield returned to action on Wednesday, March
22nd and played in all eight of FSU’s games that week and what a week she
had! Playing in all eight games, she batted .346 with nine hits, including
two doubles, and a team-leading seven RBIs.

The Lady Seminoles already have 14 home runs this season while FSU pitching
has allowed just five. The Tribe had a total of seven last season. Kelly
Miller and Teresa Edenfield lead the team with three apiece while Kimmy
Carter, Brandi Stuart and Serita Brooks each have two and Natalie Bennett
and Jenn White-Stokes each have one.

Leslie Malerich faced 21 batters and threw five strikeouts against
Princeton for her first career perfect game at FSU! It was also her sixth
shut out of the season.

Leslie Malerich earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors on Monday, March 20th
after recording her first career perfect game and earning two victories the
past week It is the third time this season that Malerich has been
recognized by the league.

Junior Serita Brooks was named to the Fresno State Hallowell Chevrolet
All-Tournament team after batting .474 with two RBI’s and going a perfect
4-4 in stolen bases.

Serita Brooks, a transfer from North Florida CC, has quickly made a name
for herself. The Cottondale, Ala., native leads the team in batting at
.375, hits with 66 and stolen bases with 33. She has also earned ACC
Player of the Week honors once this season.

Drake University transfer Natalie Bennett has just 36 hits on the season
and they have been key ones because the shortstop ranks third on the team
with 23 RBIs off those hits!

The Lady Seminoles have some speed in the line up. Serita Brooks leads the
team with 33 stolen bases, while Brandi Stuart has 24. As a team, FSU has
recorded 83 stolen bases to its opponents’ 33.

The Lady Seminoles are 33-23 heading into this weekend’s action. Ten of
the Tribe’s 23 losses have been by just one run and four of those games
went extra innings before being decided.

Two records were tied or broken during the Seminole Classic, February
11-13. The Cal-Berkeley Bears tied the record for team RBI’s with 10 and
set a new record for runs by one team in a game with 14 against FAMU on Feb
12. The Tribe committed a complex record seven errors vs. Georgia Tech on
April 1st.

The Lady Seminoles are 2-5 in extra inning games this season.

for the week of February 21st. For the week, she compiled a 5-0 record
while not allowing a run in 21 1/3 innings of work. She has not went 28 1/3
consecutive innings before allowing a run and has 96 strikeouts in 97
innings pitched.
