February 12, 1999

PHOENIX, Ariz – The Lady Seminoles split their first two games at
the Arizona State Coke Classic Friday afternoon in Phoenix, Arizona. FSU
took the first game 12-3 from Utah State but lost the second to Utah 2-5.

Corrie Williams got the Lady Seminoles on the scoreboard in the 4th
inning with a homerun that broke open a tight ball game and gave FSU a
margin they never gave up. Jen White finished off the game with a homer in
the sixth for FSU.

In FSU’s second game of the day, the Lady Seminole out-hit Utah
8-7, but could not get the hits at the key times as Utah won the game 5-2
on the strength of back-to-back two-run innings in the third and fourth.
The Lady Seminoles cut the lead to 4-2 with a run in the top of the sixth,
but Utah matched it in the bottom and FSU could not score in the seventh.

The split gave the Seminoles a 2-3 record on the young season. FSU
will play another doubleheader on Saturday taking on California and then
8th-ranked Nebraska.
