LADY SEMINOLES HAVE SOLID START

With sweeps over Mercer and Georgia Southern, the Lady Seminoles opened the 1998 season successfully…

* The pitching leads the way … As a staff, FSU has an ERA of 1.30 through four games. Freshman ace Jen White and returnee Stacy Venable each recorded two victories over the weekend. FSU pitching is holding opponents to a .198 batting average and has given up only three walks in 27 innings pitched.

* Through four games…

* FSU has outscored its opponents 23-4

* FSU is batting .333 while its opponents are at .198 * FSU has committed just one fielding error * FSU has successfully stolen eight of nine bases

AND THE SENIORS SHALL LEAD US

FSU has just two senior starters in the lineup in Misty Molin and Kristy Hull. Molin (.625, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 2 SB) and Hull (.500, 3 RBI) are one and two in batting, respectively.

AND THE FRESHMEN WILL FOLLOW

* Rookie pitcher Jen White has recorded 13 strikeouts in 11 innings pitched and has not given up a walk. Her record stands at 2-0 with a 1.27 ERA. Her first start as a Seminole was the season-opener vs. Mercer in which she pitched a complete game.

* Christy Cerecedes, the starter at second base, is third on the team in batting at .462, has two RBIs and is tied for the team lead with six hits. She is also perfect in fielding.

EDENFIELD HAS MOST RBIs

Sophomore Teresa Edenfield, who saw the most playing time of all rookies last year, started 1998 with a bang. Edenfield had just two hits, including a double, in the first four games, but drove in a team-leading four runs.

1998 Florida State Softball Outlook
There’s no star power hitter, no ace on the mound, no standout speedster on the base paths, rather, the 1998 Florida State softball team will feature that old fashioned thing called teamwork. Head coach Dr. JoAnne Graf will put every one of her 19 years of coaching experience to work as she prepares a young, but talented group of athletes for major Division I softball competition.
