Tallahassee, FL –
For the fourth time in her illustrious career at FSU, Seminole second baseman Brandi Stuart was honored as an ACC Player of the Week. Stuart won the first player of the week honor of the 2003 season after another stellar week that has become all too common for the 2002 NFCA 1st Team All-American.
“It is always a great honor to win ACC Player of the Week and the credit, as always goes to so many of my teammates,” said Stuart. “Right now I am more focused on our team and improving my play to help us reach the goals we set at the start of the season. I think we have a lot of room for improvement as a team and also myself individually.”
The all-everything second baseman put together a stellar first week as she led FSU in runs (6), total bases (11), hits (7) and stolen bases (3) while hitting .389 and extending her 2003 hit streak to eight games. In six games last week, Stuart had a double and a home run, she slugged .611, drew six walks and was on base 56% of the time.
As she always does, Stuart also came up big in FSU’s biggest games. Her two RBIs both came in games versus the Tribe’s best competition. Against Seminole Classic champion Oregon, Stuart’s two-out double put FSU in the lead 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Then against No. 17 Georgia, after Florida State fell behind in the first inning for the first time all year, Stuart led off the second by blasting FSU’s first homer of the season over the center field wall. She also matched a career high with her three runs scored versus Florida A&M. Overall, she hit above .330 in every game but one last week and averaged a hit, a run and a walk per game during the six game stretch.
The ninth-ranked Seminoles (5-3) return to action this weekend as they host the Sunshine State Tournament. The Tribe will face Iowa State (2-4) and Middle Tennessee (0-0) Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15 at the Seminole Softball Complex.
