Sept. 11, 1999

DEKALB, Ill. — The Florida State volleyball team rebounded from
a three-set loss to Santa Clara early in the day to down host Northern
Illinois in three games in the final match of the Northern Illinois
Invitational. FSU, now 3-4 on the year, fell to Santa Clara by scores
of 8-15, 4-15, 10-15. The win over the Huskies was by scores of 15-3,
15-11, 15-9.

Junior Jennifer Werrick, who had a career-high 27 kills in
Friday’s match vs. UT-Arlington, continued to dominate for the Tribe in
today’s action. The outside hitter had a team-high .355 hitting
performance against Santa Clara on 14 kills. Against NIU, she was very
impressive with 12 kills on 25 attempts and just two errors for a .400
hitting performance. She also added 10 digs to the effort. Senior Aisha
Thornton was error-free for the match with 12 kills on 18 attempts on
her way to a .667 hitting percentage while freshman Erica Bunch also hit
double figures in hitting with a team-high 13 kills.

“I think it was important for us to get the win over Northern
Illinois,” FSU Head Coach Cecile Reynaud said. “It was a real
team-effort and with the youth we have on this team, we are going to
have to have everyone contribute in order to be successful.”

Florida State’s next action will be vs. UC-Santa Barbara on
Wednesday, Sept. 15th at Tully Gym. Game time is 7 p.m.
