FSU Swimmer Christy Cech Earns All-America Honors After First Day At NCAA Championships

March 16, 2001

Florida State’s Christy Cech earned All-America honors and set a new school record in the women’s 50 yard freestyle at the NCAA swimming and diving championships at East Meadow, New York. Cech broke the school record with a 22:54 timing in the preliminary heat before swimming to a fourth place finish with a 22:58 in the final.
Cech, a junior from South Africa, was the ACC champion in the 100 meter freestyle and will compete in that event on Friday as well as the 200 free. FSU junior Keryn Krynauw will compete in the 100 and 200 breaststroke while at the NCAA Championships.
“We are extremely excited and proud of Christy’s swim today,” said FSU head coach Neil Harper. “She swam very well and, of course, set a school record. We’re pleased with being in the top 25 after the first day with Christy’s top event coming up in the 100 free.”
