Tallahassee, Fla.- Florida State swimming and diving will test the road waters this weekend as the Seminoles travel to Columbia, S.C. to take on South Carolina Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. FSU will then head to Clemson, S.C. to take on the Tigers at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning. The clash with Clemson will be broadcast on ACCSelect.com.
“It’s that time of year where we’re starting to turn the corner, they’re in intense training and we are starting to race stiffer competition,” FSU head coach Neil Harper said. “South Carolina is a good team and they are especially good at home and turning around the next morning to swim Clemson is always tough.”
The meet against Clemson will be a rematch from the season-opening quad meet. The women defeated the Tigers 195-105 while the men lost by eight points 151-143. Harper knows that to win, both the men and the women will have to be at their best.
“Clemson is a great team with a terrific junior and senior class,” said Harper. “They’ve got some experienced veterans with NCAA experience and they will test us. This is a good straight up dual meet and whoever wants it the most will win.”
For Florida State, it is an opportunity to test themselves on the road before the ACC Championships.
“I think what I want out of this trip is for us to be on the road in the middle of January and be strong,” said Harper. “My team needs to be tough, they need to want it and they need grit and determination. I think that’s the most important thing. We can only control how we compete so as long as we’re giving it our all we’ll come back to Tallahassee happy.”
