FSU Takes Four Singles Matches at Georgia Tech Invitational

Tallahassee, Fla. – FSU finished the first day at Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. from November 5-7, 2004, with four singles wins and two doubles victories.

Senior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita), sophomore Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham), freshman Tapiwa Marobela (Garborone, Botswana/Clapham) and senior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, CA/Futures) all won in singles against Maryland.

Moldovan defeated the Terps’ Marianne Baker in straight sets, posting a final tally of 6-4, 6-1. Clarke pushed Maryland’s Veronika Subertova in both stanzas, picking up a 7-5, 7-5 win. Fellow Clapham graduate, Marobela, took three sets to set down the Terps’ Tamar Huppes, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. Tantee went to the brink in the first round (7-5) but pulled out the singles contest with a 6-2 final set.

Junior Lindsay Deason (Ft. Myers, FL/Boca Raton Prep) lost to Maryland’s Jennifer Dent 7-5, 6-4 while junior transfer Miranda Foley (Cambridge, England/Houston) took her opponent Neda Mihneva to three sets in the loss, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. Senior Natalie Tirapelli (St. Petersburg, FL/Connecticut) also dropped a two-set match to Masha Senic 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles, Deason and Moldovan beat host Georgia Tech’s Miller and Silverio 8-5 and Tantee played with Senic against the Yellow Jackets’ Stauss and van Londen in a winning effort (8-4).

Foley and Clarke dropped an 8-5 decision to Anderson and Shosho while Marobela and Tirapelli came out on the losing end of an 8-5 final.

The Seminoles play eight singles matches and four doubles contests over the three day tournament. Other schools in attendance are ACC foes Maryland and Georgia Tech (host school) and Marshall, the team Florida State picked up an NCAA victory against during the 2004 season.
