TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Eighth-ranked Florida State (6-1) gets back to business this weekend with a three-game series against Maine (3-2). First pitch for game one is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2 on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium.
Florida State is 6-0 all-time against Maine with all six previous meetings coming in Tallahassee. This weekend marks the second straight year these two schools have met and the fourth time since 1988.
Maine is coming off an NCAA Regional appearance in 2011 in which the Black Bears went 1-2 in Chapel Hill. The berth marked Maine’s 16th trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Black Bears are the only current member of the America East Conference that FSU has ever faced.
Last year, Florida State outscored Maine 19-5 in a pair of mid-week games in Tallahassee as the Seminoles hit .382 in the two games while posting a team ERA of 2.00. The Black Bears hit. 239 and registered an ERA of over 10 in dropping both games to FSU.
Only one of the six previous meetings in the series has been decided by two runs or less (FSU, 4-2 in 1988), while the Seminoles have scored in double figures three times.
On the mound, Florida State will send out its same rotation from what fans saw last weekend against FIU. Freshman Brandon Leibrandt (1-1, 5.87 ERA) will make his third straight start on Friday afternoon, while fellow freshman Mike Compton (2-0, 1.64 ERA) and sophomore Peter Miller (1-0, 1.35 ERA) will look to build off impressive outings last weekend against the Panthers.
Friday and Saturday’s game will be streamed live over the internet on Seminoles All-Access, while fans can follow all the live stats via gametracker on Seminoles.com and receive updates on Twitter @FSU_Baseball.
