FSU Tennis Holds Community Day

Sept. 14, 2006

Tallahassee, Fla. – The men’s and women’s tennis teams along with the FSU Tennis Club hosted Community Day on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Tennis fans of all ages came out to support FSU tennis, hit a few balls and enjoy free pizza.

“We like doing this kind of thing and gathering support for the students and the community,” said head men’s tennis coach Dwayne Hultquist. “We have quite a few students who come out to our matches and this is a way for us to give back to them, teach them a little bit of tennis and hopefully grow the game of tennis on the campus.”

FSU players went through various drills and games with the fans from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The main goal of the event was to get the community excited about playing tennis and joining the FSU tennis club.

“We will put a player or possible two players on each court,” said Hultquist. “Let the students hit some balls with our players and let our players take them through drills and kind of teach them certain things technically, how to hit the ball. Hopefully we will establish some relationships that will help us in gathering that support.”
