Tallahassee, Fla. – After Monday’s (July 10th) opening day of the ITA Summer College Circuit, four men’s and three women’s players on the Florida State tennis teams advance to day two at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
In singles action, the men’s team advanced all four student-athletes to the second round due to byes. Seventh seed Andrew Bailey (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln) defeated his opponent Tony Bertucci 6-0, 6-1 while first seed Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Megga) thrashed his opponent Richard Walsh 6-0, 6-0. Third seed Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC/Brevard HS) beat his challenger, Cody Simmon, 6-2, 6-2 while eighth seed Jason Hood (Columbia S.C./Richland Northeast) routed Danny Colon 6-3, 6-2.
On the women’s side, junior Tapiwa Marobela (Gaborone, Botswana/ Clapham) won in the first round 6-3, 6-2 over Allison Adamski. Incoming freshmen Jessica Wente (Whitehouse, Texas/Whitehouse HS) and Lauren Macfarlane (Odgen, Utah/Weber HS) received byes to the second round. Seventh seed Wente defeated Keyla Schwenk 6-2, 6-4. Macfarlane beat Cammie Grey 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the third round.
The Seminoles are hosting the first stop of the 2006 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Summer College Circuit. The ITA runs a circuit of events during the summer with eight different regions hosting a circuit of four events. Florida State is hosting the first of four events in the Southern Region.
