FSU to ‘Fight at the Fort’ in Texas This Weekend

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Coming off a dominating performance on the west coast to open the 2016 season including a win over then second-ranked and defending national champion Southern Cal, the Florida State Beach Volleyball team looks to improve their record (9-0) as the Seminoles head to Ft. Worth, Texas this weekend.

In Texas, the Noles will play three total matches against Houston Baptist, TCU and Texas A&M Corpus Christi at the Fight at the Fort Tournament. Florida State looks to take on Houston Baptist (12pm ET) and TCU (3pm ET) on Saturday, March 19, and then Texas A&M Corpus Christi (10 am ET) on Sunday, March 20.

For the first time in five seasons, the Seminoles will face Houston Baptist and Texas A&M CC. The Noles are 1-0 all-time against TCU. The last match-up between FSU and TCU was on March 11, 2015, when the Noles defeated the Horned Frogs in Zuma Beach, Calif., 5-0.

This is also the first time the Noles will travel to the state of Texas as it marks a return home for two Seminoles – sophomore Victoria Paranagua (Austin) and freshman Ali Eager (Southlake). Also for Florida State, Paranagua and senior Kristina Pellitteri were named the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week after helping the Noles to wins over three top 10-ranked schools this past weekend. The Seminole duo will look to remain unbeaten on the season as they head to Texas winners of nine straight matches.

At 9-0, Florida State is off to its best start since going 15-0 in its inaugural season in 2012. Florida State is also opening its season playing the first five weekends away from home and venture to improve its all-time road record which stands at 58-15.

In the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, Florida State is now ranked No. 2 versus the preseason poll where the Noles opened at No. 5. This week’s ranking is the highest achieved by the Seminoles in the AVCA Poll and ties the school record for the highest ranking since opening the 2015 season at No. 2 in the DiG Magazine preseason poll.
