TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – For only the second time in program history, the No. 15 Florida State women’s tennis team (14-10) will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament beginning Friday, May 14-15. In the squad’s 14th tournament appearance, they will welcome three ranked opponents including No. 18 South Carolina (16-8), No. 54 TCU (10-15) and No. 68 North Florida (20-2).
“This feels great that we are hosting,” FSU Head Coach Jennifer Hyde said. “This team is just the second team in program history to host. These girls have really worked hard this year. They have played through a lot of adversity and hurdles and they earned it. It’s very fun to watch our names pop up on the TV like that. It’s a great feeling.”
Coming off an impressive showing at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship where it made their third-consecutive, fourth overall, appearance, FSU will face No. 68 North Florida in the first round.
The Seminoles’ tough schedule this season will prepare the squad to face elite competition in the tournament. In total, FSU has beaten 10 ranked opponents including No. 10 Duke and No. 13 Tennessee.
The Osprey will enter competition with a 20-2 record that helped capture the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship trophy.
“We just can’t be satisfied with this,” Coach Hyde said. “We have been here before and made it to the Round of 32. We need to take that next step. We will take this opportunity and make the best of it.”
