TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The No. 17 Florida State volleyball team looks to remain undefeated in conference play as the Seminoles host Georgia Tech on Friday at 7 p.m. and Clemson on Sunday at 1 p.m.
FSU (12-1, 3-0 ACC) is coming off an impressive first weekend of league games as the team defeated Virginia Tech 3-1 and then swept Virginia 3-0. With the victories over the two Virginia schools, the Seminoles completed an undefeated month of September for just the second time in program history and extended their winning streak to 10-straight matches.
Because of its exploits on the volleyball court, Florida State has been given a national ranking of No. 17 in this week’s AVCA Division I Coaches Poll — a mark that ties the school record for highest ranking ever.
The Seminoles have been moving through the 2009 season thanks to a balanced attack that features a roster full of players that all play a specific role. Through 12 games, three different players have over 100 kills and six have 79 or more. Setters Nikki Baker and Duygu Duzceler have split their minutes and both are well into the 200s in terms of number of assists. Five players also have 20 or more blocks on the season.
FSU’s stellar play leading up to the month of October is made all the more impressive by the fact that the team currently boasts a No. 2 ranking in the RKPI rankings for the second week in a row. The Seminoles are also the only team in the ACC to be ranked in the top 25.
Following the match against the Tigers on Sunday, the volleyball team will host a 45-minute clinic on Lucy McDaniel Court for children ages five to 14. The event is free for those that are in attendance.
