FSU to Host Wake Forest and NC State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After a two-week break from competition, the No.26 – ranked Florida State women’s tennis team is ready to step on court for a pair of home matches. The Seminoles will face Wake Forest on Thursday at 4 p.m. before taking on No. 35 – ranked NC State on Saturday at 12 p.m. Both duals will take place at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.

“The last 12 days have been great for us,” head coach Jennifer Hyde said. “We put in some hard core training and I think the break came at a great time. This team is ready to get out on court again and compete. Our practices last week went really well, they were very intense. These girls are ready to go.”

During spring break, the Seminoles traveled out west and defeated UNLV 6-1, halting a three-match losing streak. With the win, Florida State improved to 9-4 on the year, with a 1-2 showing in the ACC.

Wake Forest brings a 1-12 (0-3 ACC) record to Tallahassee, dropping six of those matches by the score of 4-3. The series with the Demon Deacons dates back to 1985, with the Deacs in front 19-13. However, the Seminoles have won the last seven meetings.

NC State boats a 10-3 (1-2 ACC) record on the year and will travel to face No. 9 Miami prior to its visit on Saturday. The Wolfpack field two ranked singles players in (No. 35) Joelle Kissell and (No. 92)Tatiana Illova. Florida State will counter with (No.31) Daneika Borthwick and (No. 109) Francesca Segarelli.

The Seminoles hold an 18-4 lead in the all-time series.

“Home or away, conference matches are big,” Hyde said. “Every team in our conference is tough and we have to play and be ready to battle and we’re excited to do it this weekend in front of our home crowd.”
