FSU Track And Field Teams Head To Blacksburg

BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Florida State men’s and women’s track and
field teams are heading to Blacksburg, VA to participate in the ACC Indoor
Championships starting Friday, February 18th. The Seminoles are heading
into the meet after a strong start to the 2000 indoor season.

Florida State’s womens team will be looking to improve on a
fourth-place finish in last year’s ACC Indoor Championships. Senior Tonya
Carter has led the way for the Lady Seminoles this season. Carter has
already posted NCAA automatic qualifying times in the 55m and 60m dash.
Junior Samantha George has also been an intregal part of the Lady Seminoles
success this season. George has posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks in
the 400m and 800m runs, set a new Lady Seminole record in the 400m dash and
has been named ACC Female Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week this
winter. The women’s 4x400m relay team is the fastest in the ACC and ninth
fastest in the nation. George, Carter, Chinette Johnson and Tangela
Wobbleton comprise that championship team that will be looking to stay on a
roll through the NCAA Championships. Senior LaKeisha Mose will also be
counted on for points at the Championships. Mose is currently tops in the
shot put and weight throw in the conference.

The men’s track and field team has been led by junior Joe Allen,
senior Jason Dean and junior Mike Jennings. Allen has been named ACC Male
Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week and is currently ranked No. 1
in the ACC in both the long jump and the triple jump. Dean broke his wrist
at the last meet and will not compete at the ACC Indoor Championships.
Dean was ranked 3rd in the ACC in the pole vault. Jennings is ranked in
the top 10 in the ACC in two events, the 400m and 800m, and is a member of
FSU’s 4x400m relay team. Jennings will be looking to contend for the ACC
crown in all three events as well as earn an NCAA qualifying mark.

The ACC Championships will conclude on Saturday, February 19th.
The Seminoles will return home before heading to Gainesville for a meet in
early March.
