TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – In their first live action of the season, the sixth-ranked Seminoles registered just one goal Friday evening in earning a 1-1 tie against the University of Georgia during an exhibition match.
The game, which was played at the Seminole Soccer Complex, provided Florida State their first live game experience this season. While the game was quite competitive, the end result will not count towards the regular season record. The Seminoles often showed why they are considered a top 10 team entering this season, showing great depth and producing 10 shots.
The first half was slow with no goals scored, as the teams went into half time with a 0-0 tie.
Florida State wasted little time to net the first goal of the match in the early parts of the second period as junior Tori Huster scored during the 59th minute on a low liner off a penalty kick save. Georgia responded immediately with a goal 32 seconds later from Laura Eddy on a volley inside the box from 20 yards.
Huster was the most active Seminole Friday night finishing the match with five shots. Senior Janice Cayman registered two shots, while Ines Jaurena, Katya Gokhman, and Breezy Hupp each took a shot on Georgia’s goal.
The Seminoles will hit the road to open the 2010 campaign traveling out west to play Washington State on Friday, August 20 and then Gonzaga in Pullman, Wash., on Sunday, August 22. The first home soccer game will be in two weeks against Stetson on Sunday, August 29.
