FSU, UNC Add Late Season Game

May 9, 2013

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State and North Carolina announced on Thursday, May 9 that both schools will wrap-up the 2013 regular-season with a one-game, non-conference showdown in Chapel Hill on Monday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Due to the cancelation of games throughout the season as a result of weather, both schools had the opportunity to add a regular-season game.

“It worked out perfectly for us to play,” said head coach Mike Martin. “We are both short a game and why wait when we both welcome the opportunity to play. We also haven’t played each other in two years; it’s a win-win for both schools. We are just glad to get the chance to play them this year.”

The two schools have not faced each other since April of 2011 when the Tar Heels took two of three games from the Seminoles in Tallahassee. Florida State leads the all-time series 63-28, while the series is tied 15-15 in games played in Chapel Hill. North Carolina has been ranked No. 1 all season by Baseball America and 11 consecutive weeks in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll.

“We are excited that we were able to get this game together,” North Carolina head coach Mike Fox said. “We both had a game to play and it is a great opportunity to play one of the top teams in the country. It should be a great test for our team heading into the ACC Tournament.”

All tickets for the game will be $10 and will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11.

Florida State will then remain in the state of North Carolina for the ACC Baseball Championship which begins Wednesday, May 22 at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
