FSU Varsity Completes Mile And A Half Run

Aug. 4, 2000

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The varsity memebers of the defending national champion
Florida State Seminoles finished the mile and a half this afternoon after a
short rain delay. The team was originally scheduled to run at 3:00 p.m.,
but rain pushed the start back to approximately 4:30 p.m.

“I’m glad it worked out where we could get it in,” said head coach
Bobby Bowden. “They caught the worst part of the day with the humidity and
the sun coming out after the rain.”

Senior All-ACC linebacker Tommy Polley, who had knee surgery in the
offseason to repair ligament damage, completed the run in 9:09, an
encouraging sign for FSU coaches.

“That’s a position we are very thin at so we hope Tommy continues
to make the progress he has been making,” said Bowden. “He’s worked hard
and dedicated himself to being a great football player since he’s been
here.”

The full squad will practice for the first time Saturday at 8:30
a.m. and again in the afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The team will participate in
media day and fan day on Sunday.
