TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Second-ranked Florida State (24-5, 11-1) hits the road for its third ACC series away from home this year as the Seminoles travel to Atlanta to face No. 23 Georgia Tech (19-11, 6-6) beginning Friday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m.
The Seminoles lead the all-time series 64-40 including a record of 22-16 in Atlanta. FSU has won eight of the last 11 games in the series.
Florida State returns to Russ Chandler Stadium for the first time since 2009 when the Yellow Jackets took two of three from the Seminoles. Georgia Tech outscored Florida State 24-16 in 2009 but games two and three were decided by two runs or less. The two schools also met during round robin play of the ACC Tournament in Durham that same year with the Yellow Jackets posting a 9-2 victory.
Florida State and Georgia Tech resume their regular season rivalry following a two-year hiatus. The only meeting between the two schools over the last two years came at 2011 ACC Tournament in Durham with the Seminoles coming away with a 4-2 victory.
Mike McGee threw 5.1 scoreless innings while Daniel Bennett pitched the final 1.2 innings to earn the save. Rafael Lopez led the offense with two hits, while James Ramsey, Sherman Johnson and Justin Gonzalez each drove in a run in the win.
Atlanta has been hit or miss for the Seminoles in their last four trips dating back to 2003. FSU claimed series victories in 2003 (taking 2 of 3) and 2007 (sweep), while Georgia Tech swept the series in 2005 and then took 2-of-3 in 2009.
Friday and Saturday’s game will air live over the internet on ESPN3 and Sunday’s game will broadcast live on CSS.
