TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State assistant volleyball coach John Spinney resigned late last week after the recent death of his mother.

Spinney, who played collegiate volleyball with FSU head coach Todd Kress and assisted the Seminoles to a 13-17 record last season, returns to Cincinnati to emotionally and physically care for his family.

“John is a very dear friend of mine and I think I can speak on behalf of the entire team when I say he will be greatly missed,” Kress said. “The players adore him and I appreciate the effort and dedication he put forth towards this program over the last year. We are all saddened by the loss of mother and we wish him nothing but the best.”

The search for his replacement will begin immediately.
