TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Following a three-game sweep of Villanova to remain undefeated on the year, Florida State (10-0) returns to the diamond to face Presbyterian College (8-4) in a two-game mid-week series beginning Tuesday, March 5 on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium.
Both games on Tuesday and Wednesday are scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. first pitch.
The Seminoles and the Blue Hose will meet for the first time in school history on Tuesday. It marks the second of two first-time opponents the Seminoles will face this year. Villanova was the first as the Seminoles swept the three-game series from the Wildcats this past weekend.
Presbyterian enters the week at 8-4 overall. The Blue Hose opened Big South play last weekend and swept a three-game home series from High Point University.
Against current schools from the Big South Conference, Florida State owns an all-time record of 75-2 with the most games coming against UNC Asheville (22 games). The Seminoles are undefeated against Charleston Southern (18-0), Coastal Carolina (11-0), High Point (2-0), Liberty (2-0) and VMI (17-0). FSU has one loss each to UNC Asheville (21-1) and Winthrop (4-1).
VMI is the last Big South school FSU has faced as the Seminoles swept a three-game series from the Keydets to open the 2011 campaign.
Sophomore right hander Luke Weaver (1-0, 1.12 ERA) will make his second start of the season on Tuesday, while Wednesday’s starting pitcher has not been announced as of Monday. Weaver pitched an inning in relief on Friday against Villanova, but is coming off a strong start against Jacksonville on February 20 that saw the DeLand, Fla., native throw 6.0 innings of one-hit ball with a career-high nine strikeouts.
