Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State women’s tennis continued to wow the home crowd with another strong day of competition at the Seminole Invite. The women kicked off the morning with a 7-0 sweep of the singles competition, then came back in the afternoon to take two of the three doubles bracket titles.

“The team did a great job today of taking care of business,” said head coach Jennifer Hyde. “We had a few matches where it could have gone either way, but the girls did a great job of really digging in and getting it done. I’m very excited we have the chance to win five singles flights tomorrow. It’s great to see us having such a strong showing at home. I’m excited to see what tomorrow brings.”

In singles play, the Seminoles dominated the competition for the second day in a row, sending six players into tomorrow’s singles finals. Senior Carolin Walter will compete for the gold draw championship while fellow senior Tapiwa Marobela will face teammate, sophomore Jessica Wente, in the white draw final match. Lauren Macfarlane will play for the silver draw title while freshmen Katie Rybakova and Federica Suess will battle for the garnet and pink draw titles respectively.

On the doubles side of the competition, sophomores Wente and Macfarlane took the black draw crown, upending FIU’s Spenceley/Vallasciani 8-5. The unseeded pair of Suess and Georgia Tech’s Noelle Hickey defeated the Dorn/Svistun coupling from Kansas to win the gold draw title. Seniors Marobela and Walter won their last doubles match-up to finish fifth in the gold draw, while Rybakova and junior Ania Rynarzewska fell to the No.1 seed in the garnet draw 8-6.

“Doubles is something we’ve been working on a lot, so it was nice to see us successful this weekend,” said Hyde. “Everyone’s getting better, we just need to continue to improve and be a bit more courageous in doubles. We’re getting there.”

Florida State will wrap the fall season at home tomorrow at the Scott Speicher Tennis center, with the final singles matches beginning at 8:00 a.m.
