FSU Women’s Swimming Completes First Day Of NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The five women representing Florida State swimming
completed their first day at the NCAA Championships. The meet is being held
at the Indiana University Natatorium.

The 200 Free Relay team of Anne Blachford, Tanya Gurr, Christy Cech and
Christine Williams finished 14th in the event (1:44.04). Cech, a sophomore
from Pietermaritzburg, South Africa who competed in the 1999 championships
while at Ohio State, finished 34th in the 50 Free (26.06) with Gurr, also
from South Africa, finishing 36th (26.10). Blachford, who has competed in two
other national championships, took 40th (26.41).

The Lady Seminoles continue competition in the championships tomorrow.
Gurr and Kristen Adams will compete in the 200 Free with Blachford swimming
in the 100 Breast. The 800 Free Relay will also compete tomorrow.
