FSU Women’s Swimming & Diving Ready for First Dual

Oct. 5, 2012

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s swimming and diving team is set to begin its 2012-13 dual meet season this weekend. The Seminoles will travel to Fort Myers, Fla. for a matchup against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday at 11 a.m.

“With the new year and the new team we’re looking for the team to come together and perform on the road,” head coach Neil Harper said. “It’s one opponent and we’ll take it one race at time. We’ll see how the ladies do on their own without the support of the men’s team and it will be a great team bonding atmosphere.”

Florida State has never lost in a dual meet with the Eagles, as they extended their winning streak to 5-0 in 2011 behind a 214-96 victory.

The Seminoles are coming off a second place showing at last weekend’s All-Florida Invitational, hosted by Florida.  Junior Tiffany Oliver was awarded the ACC Female Swimmer of the Week award by the league office for her efforts over the weekend, including a first place finish in the 100 free with a time of 49.91.

Also nabbing first-place finishes in Gainesville, Fla. were sophomores Elizabeth Pepper in the 200 fly (2:02.32) and Kaitlyn Dressel in the 50 free who touched in a tie with a mark of 23.15.

“We’re looking for everyone to step up tomorrow,” Harper said. “Everyone should be excited to have an opportunity, a lane and be in the lineup and we’ll see how we’ll do considering we’ve been training very well and very hard.”
