FSU Women’s Tennis Completes First Tournament of Fall at Roberta Alison Fall Classic
Lady Seminole newcomer Amber Tantee advanced to Flight Championship Round of Singles Draw E.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-The Florida State Lady Seminoles women’s tennis team completed their first fall tournament of the season at the Roberta Alison Fall Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Amber Tantee a newcomer to FSU from Dana Point, Calif., advanced to the final championship singles round of Draw F where she faced Auburn’s Sarah Suitor.
FSU’s Anca Dumitrescu fought hard but fell to Houston’s Sarah Borwell going, 6-3, 5-6, 7-6 (7-0). Dumitrescu later faced Miami’s Selia Mathew in the third place match of the Singles Draw A. Dumitrescu defeated Mathew in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Returning Seminole senior Jessica Balbuena fell in second round action to Miami’s Karem Harboe. Balbuena later fell to Mississippi State’s Carole Soubis in Singles Draw B third place match.
In Draw C FSU’s Lauren Walker fell to Washington State’s Lorena Arias. In the third place match Walker took the win over Sophie Cremers of Alabama going 7-5, 7-5. In second round action of the Singles D Draw Lady Seminole Meredith Fish fell to Chris Martinez of Washington State. Fish later defeated Miami’s Audra Adams in the third place match of the draw by default.
Lady Seminole Tantee who had advanced to her flight championship round fought with all she had but fell to Auburn’s Suitor, 7-6(5), 7-5. Beth Lawrence also saw action in the third place match of her draw when facing Auburn University-Montgomery’s Carla Bruno. Lawrence fell to Bruno 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles play the Lady Seminoles would see action in three different matches, however none of the FSU tandems would be able to come up with a win. In the A Draw Balbuena and Walker fell to Auburn’s Illariova and Maurer 8-6. In the B Draw Tantee and Dumitrescu lost by default to Arkansas State’s Ciblis and Pogacnik and Fish and Lawrence FSU’s final team fell in Draw C to Washington State’s Rogonovic and Sallai.
The Lady Seminoles will return to fall action when they host the annual Lady Seminole Fall Classic at the friendly confines of the Scott Speicher Tennis Center, Friday, Oct. 5th through Sunday, Oct. 7th.
