FSU Women’s Tennis Completes Lady Seminole Fall Classic

The Florida State women’s tennis team completed action at the annual Lady Seminole Fall Classic. Auburn University swept doubles draw A and B while Miami saw three wins in finals competition.


In singles flight A Florida State’s Anca Dumitrescu went up against preseason ranked No. 7 Jessica Lenhoff of Florida. Dumitrescu fell to Lenhoff 6-1, 6-1. In the consolation round TCU’s Gaber would come out on top with a 7-5, 7-5 win over her teammate Weirich.


In singles flight B Auburns Maurer fell to Miami’s Bennacer in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. In flight B singles consolation action UCF’s Lohmos defeated Auburn’s Janska 2-6, 6-1, 6-0.


Miami would see a face-off of teammates in singles flight C when Scaglione and Pelto would fight for the title. Pelto the No. 2 seed of the draw defeated Scaglione, the No. 1 seed of the draw, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Jacksonville’s Packer defeated Georgia Southern’s Wilander in the singles flight C consolation round.


Heading into doubles action in draw A Lady Seminoles, Alida Gallovits and Dumitrescu teamed together to defeat Rose and Campana 8-1 in the semi-finals. The No. 1 seed of the draw, Florida’s Lenhoff and Gordon fell in semi-finals action to Auburn’s Illianarova and Maurer. Later Illianarova and Maurer would defeat the Seminole tandem of Gallovits and Dumitrescu 8-4. In the consolation round Miami’s Toro and Hora defeated UCF’s Westin and Pecastaing 8-1.


In the B doubles draw of the classic it would be Auburn who would again come out on top. AUB’s Suitor and Sauerborn first defeated Montoya and Rosenberg of FIU 8-3 to advance them to the finals where they defeated Miami’s Stevens and Pelto 8-5. In consolation finals action TCU’s Gaber and Mancinas defeated USF’s Larsen and Spicijaric 8-6.


The Florida State women’s tennis team will return to action when they head to Gainesville for the Gator Invitational Oct. 12-14.
