The Florida State women’s tennis team finished their second day of competition hosting the annual Lady Seminole Fall Classic at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Following an afternoon delay due to rain, sophomore Anca Dumitrescu defeated Florida’s Gordon in straight sets to advance her to the finals round in the singles flight A competition. Rain would once again come forcing doubles matches to be moved to Sunday, Oct. 7. Finals action ins ingles flights will begin at 9:00 a.m., doubles semi-finals and finals action will follow.
Dumitrescu will face yet another Florida player in the final round in Jessica Lenhoff the number one seed of the tournament. Lenhoff is currently ranked No. 7 in the ITA’s preseason rankings. Lady Seminole Jessica Balbuena fell today to the number four seed of the tournament, Miami’s M. Toro, 6-2, 6-2, in third round action. TCU teammates Weirich and Gaber will face off in the singles flight A consolation round.
In the Singles B draw FSU’s Amber Ly Tantee fell in third round action to South Florida’s A. Sinclair. In the finals round of the B draw Auburn’s Maurer will face Miami’s Bennacer. In the consolation draw of flight B UCF’s Lohmos is set to face Auburn’s Janska.
Miami is set for a face-off in the C draw of the tournament finals in L. Scaglione and J. Pelto. The consolation round finals will see Jacksonville’s K. Packer and Georgia Southern’s A. Wilander going head to head.
Florida State’s Dumitrescu will see action again on Sunday following her singles match as she and senior returner Alida Gallovits team together in semi-finals action against FIU’s Rose and Campano. Florida’s Lenhoff and Gordon will face Illianarova and Maurer of Auburn in the semi-finals for a chance to advance to the finals. In the consolation round FSU’s Beth Lawrence and South Florida’s Sinclair will team together when facing Miami’s Toro and Hora for a chance to face UCF’s Westin and Pecastaing in finals action.
In flight B doubles Miami’s Stevens and Pelto will face Inoue and Geerboro of Jacksonville, while Auburn’s Suitor and Sauerborn face Miami’s Bennacer and Robbins in the semi-finals round of competition. In consolation semi-finals action it will be Gaber and Mancinas of TCU vs. Packer and Dahlman of Jacksonville.
Action continues Sunday, Oct. 7th at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center as the singles finals begin at 9:00 a.m. with doubles semi-finals and finals to follow.
