FSU Women’s Tennis Edges No. 24 LSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State women’s tennis team (7-2)
improved their season record against ranked opponents to 4-2 with a victory
over #24 LSU (7-3) on Monday. The triumph over the Tigers also extended the
19th-ranked Lady Seminoles winning streak to five.

Nanette Duxin defeated a ranked opponent for the second time this
season when she upset 70th-ranked Ana Paula Mores 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. The
junior from Uruguay has seen considerbale sucess at the No. 2 spot where
she is 7-1 on the season. The three-set victory by Duxin evened the score
of the match at three heading into the doubles matches.

Senior Kia Asberg defeated Fernanda Tsucamoto in straight sets to
put the Lady Seminoles up 1-0 while winning her sixth consecutive dual
match of the season. After FSU’s Marina Raic lost at No. 6 singles to make
the score 1-1, sophomore Jessica Balbuena picked up a win against Tami
Botts 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles to put the Lady Seminoles back up by a
point. At No. 1 singles, 66th-ranked Alida Gallovits lost a close match to
the 12th-ranked player in the country, Bruna Colosio. With the score tied
at 2-2, FSU’s Ali Weber lost on court No. 5 to LSU’s Lauren Haddix which
set the stage for Duxin’s three-set match equalizing victory.

In doubles, the FSU duo of Asberg and Raic defeated LSU’s No. 2
tandem of McIlhaney and Tsucamoto 8-3 to put Florida State a point away
from clinching the match. The next match to finish was on court No. 3
where FSU’s Weber and Balbuena dropped Craycraft and Haddix 8-4 to seal the
victory for the Lady Noles with one match still left to be decided. At No.
1 doubles, FSU’s Duxin and Gallovits came close to pulling off an upset of
the nation’s 16th-ranked team of Colosio and Mores, but fell 8-6 to
conclude the match.

The Lady Seminoles will return to action on March 4th when they
will play the first of four matches in six days at the Scott Speicher
Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla. FSU will host South Florida on
Saturday, March 4th at 11:00 a.m.
