FSU Women’s Tennis Falls To Wake Forest

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – The Florida State Lady Seminoles lost on Saturday
to the third-ranked team in the country, ACC rival Wake Forest. Wake Forest
improved to 12-1 overall and 3-0 in the ACC, while FSU fell to 13-4 on the
season and 3-1 in the ACC.

FSU sophomore Jessica Balbuena won her second match in a row and was the
only Lady Seminole to pick up a win against the Demon Deacons. Balbuena
improved to 8-8 in dual matches this spring with a three-set thriller against
Wake’s Maren Haus, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(5).

Florida State senior Kia Asberg lost for the first time in 14 matches to
Wake Forest’s Janet Bergman, the country’s 37th-ranked player. Asberg’s
third loss of the dual match season was in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3
singles were she had not lost in nine previous matches this season.

At No. 1 singles, FSU’s Alida Gallovits lost to the country’s
fifth-ranked player, Adria Engel, a freshman from Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
Gallovits suffered her sixth loss of the dual match season. Also suffering
her sixth loss of the dual match season was FSU junior Nanette Duxin. Duxin
lost to the nation’s 26th-ranked player, Bea Bielik, another freshman from
Valley Stram, New York.

Florida State lost five of six singles matches and all three doubles
matches, defaulting in one singles match and one doubles match. Florida
State will continue the grueling three-day road trip in which they will play
three matches in 48 hours. The Lady Seminoles were forced to make up the
North Carolina match that was rained out March 16th in Tallahassee, Fla. on
this current road trip to the state of North Carolina. FSU is 1-1 on the
trip so far with a 5-2 win Friday against the Tar Heels. Florida State will
play North Carolina State on Sunday in Raleigh, N.C.
