Tallahassee – The Florida State women’s tennis team will host the Rice University Owls tomorrow afternoon, Friday, February 6th at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center at 12:00 p.m. The home match is the fourth in a series of six consecutive contests being held on the Tribe’s home court.
The No. 54 Florida State women’s tennis team (3-0) will go into battle against its first ranked opponent of the year when they play No. 75 Rice University (4-1). The Seminoles are a perfect 7-0 in all three matches this spring. Rice is coming off a tough loss to No. 14 William and Mary. The Owls upset No. 40 Minnesota 5-2 earlier this season. Last year, Rice was 9-14 and 3-2 in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
Against the “Sun”
Florida State holds the slight advantage in the competition between the two schools leading 6-5 all time. The rivalry began in 1983. The last time the two teams met was in 2003 where the Seminoles edged the Owls in a tight match winning 4-3.
The Last Outing
The Noles are currently 7-5 all-time against the Western Athletic Conference only having competed against Rice and Louisiana Tech (2-0).
