FSU Women’s Tennis Knocks Off NC State, 6-1

TALLAHASSEE, FL.–The Florida State women’s tennis team won its third match in a row Saturday, defeating No. 64 NC State by a score of 6-1. The win puts the Seminoles at 9-6 for the season and 1-0 in ACC action, while the Wolfpack drops to 5-7 overall and 0-2 in the ACC.


Florida State took the first point of the day by winning all three doubles matches. FSU’s Alida Gallovits and Nanette Duxin showed no mercy at the No. 2 position, defeating Myrna Bawono and Katrina Gildemeister, 8-2. Samantha Schoeffel and Jessica Balbuena took an 8-6 victory over NC State’s Jackie Leskovar and Loni Worsley at No. 1 doubles to secure the doubles point for the Seminoles. Schoeffel and Balbuena, who have won eight out of nine doubles matches this season, are currently in 38th place in the ITA doubles rankings. To complete the sweep for the Noles, Natalie Carratala and Marina Raic defeated Jennifer Jassawalla and Kristen Nicholls at No. 3 by a score of 8-4.


Florida State kept the momentum going in the singles portion of the match. Samantha Schoeffel extended her singles winning streak to nine matches as she rolled over NC State’s Jackie Leskovar, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Nanette Duxin at the No. 5 spot increased Florida State’s lead to 3-0 as she defeated Loni Worsley, 6-1, 6-2. FSU’s Alida Gallovits clinched the match for the Noles with a straight set victory over Kristin Lam, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 1. The last two singles matches both went to a third and decisive set. Jessica Balbuena defeated NC State’s Kristen Nicholls, 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4, while Katrina Gildemeister put the Wolfpack on the board with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win over Christina Denny at No. 3.


The FSU women will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, March 25th, at 11 a.m. when they are scheduled to host No. 22 Wake Forest in the last home match of the season.
