On her return to fall action following a summer of injury FSU women’s tennis member Christina Denny won the B draw of the 2001 ITA Omni Hotels Southern Regional Championships. With the win in singles competition Denny now advances into the 2001 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, held from November 8-11 at the Brookhaven Country Club located just outside of Dallas in Farmers Branch, Texas.
Following two great wins yesterday in the quarter and semifinals rounds Denny advanced into the finals where she faced Maria Soerensen of Georgia State. Play began with Denny falling in a fast first set, 1-6. Denny would return in the second set for the win, 7-5. In the third and final set the two players went head to head with FSU’s Denny coming out on top, defeating Soerensen by a score of 7-6(6).
Lady Seminole Denny will now prepare for the 2001 National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 8-11. The FSU women’s team returns home to prepare for spring action. The Florida State’s first dual match competition will be against local rival FAMU at the home court of the Lady Seminoles, Scott Speicher Tennis Center on January 22, 2002. The match is set for 2:00 p.m.
