FSU Women’s Tennis Moves Into Finals At Hurricane Classic

CORAL GABLES, FL.,– The Florida State Lady Seminoles completed day two of the Hurricane Classic, being held on the campus of the University of Miami at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

Seminole Junior Alida Gallovits defeated FIU’s Guzman in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, to advance Gallovits into the semifinals.

In semifinals play Gallovits defeated Florida’s Julia Scaringe 7-6, 6-6, 8-6. Gallovits will be heading into finals play Sunday morning where she will face unseeded Kristen Jordan of FAU. Seminole teammate Christina Denny fell in competition today against FAU’s Kristen Jordan 3-6, 4-6.

In singles flight A consolation play Jessica Balbuena fell to FIU’s Toro 2-6, 4-6. In singles flight C tournament action freshman Beth Lawernce fell to Rivera of FAU 1-6, 4-6.

In doubles play the Seminole tandem of Balbuena and Denny received a first round bye. In the quarterfinals round the two defeated Jordan and Rivera of? FAU 8-4, and will play Sunday in the semifinals. Lawernce teamed with Tennessee’s Cordel and the two received a first round bye, followed up with a defeat over FIU’s Jones and Elsawaf 8-6. The two advance to the semifinals to be played Sunday morning.

Seminoles will complete tournament play Sunday, Oct. 29.
