Tallahassee, FL – The Florida State women’s tennis team (13-4, 3-0 ACC) continued to win in Atlantic Coast Conference action, defeating N.C. State, 7-0. Junior Mihaela Moldovan (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) won her 17th consecutive single match (dual play), besting Nandita Chandrasekar in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
“N.C. State’s a good team coming off a good match against Georgia Tech,” said eighth year head coach Lise Gregory. “We played well today coming through in the close situations.”
The Seminoles swept the singles area, including Moldovan’s record setting victory in the two slot. Senior Anca Dumitrescu (Bucharest, Romania/VCU) defeated Barbara Orlay 6-3, 6-0, playing out of the number one position. Fellow senior Christina Denny (Canton, Ohio/Bradenton Academy) won at the number three position, besting the Wolfpack’s Jennifer Jassawalla 6-3, 2-6, 10-4.
Newcomers Lindsay Deason (St. Petersburg, FL/Boca Raton Prep) and Roxanne Clarke (Cape Town, South Africa/Clapham) won in the four and five spots, picking up wins against Vania Apodaca (6-2, 6-2) and Augustina Arechevaleta (6-4, 6-0), respectively. Junior Amberly Tantee (Dana Point, CA/Futures) completed the sweep with a win at the number six position against Danielle Stadelmann, 6-4, 6-0.
The Seminoles return to the court tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. to face Wake Forest in Raleigh, N.C.
